James Monroe 5th US President 1817- 1825

Monroe established the US-Canadian border. Monroe's presidency was most remembered for the "Monroe Doctrine" in which he declared the US government separate and different from Europe. He presided over the Missouri Compromise where Maine was admitted as a free state and Missouri as a slave state.
